WHY SEALCOAT?
To protect your asphalt pavement with a RICH BLACK RUBBERIZED COATING that will stop the damaging effects of weather, oxidation, moisture and chemicals. Most important is it saves thousands in repaving costs.
HOW MANY COATS?
Since you have made the decision to protect your driveway now consider the levels of protection available. The forced spraying of one coat sealant does not offer protection that two coats can provide. As a homeowner would prefer a second coat of paint on the exterior of their home for added protection a second coat of sealant is the preferred choice.
OIL DAMAGE PROBLEMS
OIL, GAS, and GREASE spots cause permanent damage on a unsealed asphalt and have to be cleaned and primed wth an oil blocker prior to sealing. An oil blocking primer is used to prevent the seal coat from peeling and usually work well; however on occasion the damage is so extensive that both primer and sealer peel away.
MOSS/AlGAE PROBLEMS
Moss and algae are common problems with asphalt pavement and must be taken care of before any seal coating can be preformed. Moss and algae can be removed by any number of way; power washing, torch lance or wire brush are most common. After it has been removed it is then covered with a special primer tack coat before sealing. In some cases moss and algae return due to the surrounding environment.
POTHOLE/SURFACE DEPRESSIONS
Prompt attention should be given to these problems to prevent additional damage. Water tends to collect in these areas and further compromise the integrity of the driveway foundation. Small potholes can be repaired by cutting four sides at a slight angle outward to reveal the foundation and filling with cold patch. A depression on the surface of asphalt pavement is the result of the shifting gravel layer. This movement weakens the area on the surface and forms the depression. There are two ways to address this problem :1) open the area and fill with gravel and repave. 2:) use a special leveling asphalt patch. This repair is no cure and cannot be guaranteed for any length of time.
CRACK PROBLEMS
Cracks in your asphalt are a major problem that will never go away and will always be seen. Our expectations are to fill and prevent further damage. It is impossible to predict how long these crack filler will last and no one can ever guarantee them.
ALLIGATOR CRACKS
Alligator cracks result from problems in the foundation of the asphalt and can only be elimanted by repaving. However we can use a producted call gatorpave for patching these areas. As with all crack repairs and patching work cannot be guaranteed.
